Experience one of California’s most magical natural migrations! Thousands of monarch butterflies overwinter along the Central Coast each year from October to February. Explore these local viewing spots:

A world-famous overwintering site featuring docent talks, walking paths, and accessible viewing areas beneath the eucalyptus trees.

β€’ Hearst San Simeon State Park Monarch Butterfly Grove
Part of the scenic Highway 1 Monarch Trail β€” spot clusters of butterflies near the William R. Hearst Memorial Beach area.

β€’ Monarch Dunes Butterfly Grove – Nipomo
A peaceful natural habitat surrounded by dunes and cypress trees β€” great for quiet observation and photography.

β€’ San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden
Visit native milkweed and pollinator-friendly gardens that support monarchs and other local species.
